Perfect for a sweet treat: the natural sweetness from the ripe bananas are brilliant for hitting your sweet tooth. Serve this chocolate banana bread warm with some yogurt or ice-cream. 

INGREDIENT NOTES

Oats – You can use whichever oats you have in your pantry. Just remember, if you are using steel cut oats, as they are more dense they will need to be blended a little bit longer to form a coarse flour. 

Apple – a nice big cooking apple is best for this, but don’t fret if you only have regular apples, they will also work great!

Bananas – the riper the better! As bananas ripen their starch is broken down into sugar. If you’re planning to make this recipe, look for ripe bananas in the supermarket (they’re usually cheaper) or buy them a week before and pop them in a brown paper bag with a ripe fruit like an apple.

Cocoa powder – I always like to bake with unsweetened cocoa powder. Did you know that cocoa powder is rich in phytonutrients but low in fat and sugar. The theobromine contained in it can help protect you from diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and certain cancer!

Walnuts – these are completely optional. I love when breads have nuts mixed throughout as an extra nutty crunch. Either walnuts or pecans go superbly well with the chocolate banana bread. You can add a handful to the mixture.

Chocolate chips – these are optional but if you want your chocolate banana bread gooey and chocolatey you should add them. I like to get a bar of dark chocolate and shave it with a potato peeler.

Step by step instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
  2. Blend Oats to Oat Flour
  3. Peel the apple, cut it into cubes, and place in a bowl with a cup of water in the microwave until it is soft. When soft, mash apple into applesauce.
  4. Mix all dry ingredients.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients.
  6. Grease a 10-inch bread pan and pour the mix in. 
  7. Bake for 30 – 45 minutes. 
  8. When the knife will come out clean banana bread is fully cooked. 
  9. Put on a drying rack and wait till it cools to enjoy!

Quick Tips!

– I like to create my chocolate shavings using a potato peeler
– Buy your bananas a week before and pop them in a brown paper bag with a ripe fruit like an apple OR Ripen them in the oven
– Add walnuts for a nutty crunch!

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups oats
  • 1 large apple
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 eggs
  • 4-6 ripe bananas mashed
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • ½ cup coconut sugar
  • 1 cup cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 1/2 cup agave syrup
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • Chocolate chips optional
  • 2 tbsp dessicated coconut optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees.
